The documented change

SAG-AFTRA announced its Verticals Agreement on 13 October 2025, describing a contract designed for serialized mobile microdramas and, in that announcement, productions with budgets under $300,000. The announcement is a dated industry event. It is not a substitute for checking the applicable agreement for a particular production. We do not infer current day rates, eligibility or residual terms from a headline or an old secondary summary.

Duration does not describe the workday

A finished minute can contain several setups, costume continuity, a physical action, dialogue coverage and sound repair. Counting episodes gives a different picture from counting scenes or production days. A slate of very short chapters can still mean a substantial continuous narrative.

A useful production dossier therefore separates the viewer’s unit from the crew’s unit. The audience sees a chapter. The schedule groups locations, performers and setups. The budget has to reconcile the two without treating a short running time as evidence that a scene is simple to make.

What to examine in the work

For craft coverage, look at how a confrontation is staged in the narrow frame, whether reaction shots preserve the emotional turn, and how location changes orient a returning viewer. These questions keep the discussion close to what is on screen.

For labour reporting, the missing evidence is often operational: the actual schedule, the contracted work, credited responsibilities and the terms that govern a performer’s contribution. Those require documents and reporting. A promotional synopsis cannot establish working conditions.

The primary reference stays primary

The union’s own hub is the starting point for the documents. A producer or performer should use the agreement and the union’s current guidance for their production. Our purpose here is to identify the change in the industry and the questions it makes possible to report.
