What was announced or recorded
On 25 March 2022, Japanese advertising and content group ADK issued a press release, distributed via PR TIMES, announcing a Japanese-dubbed vertical anime titled 破裂蛋蛋君 (Haretsu Tantan-kun), built around a character called Mr. Egg. The release states the character had already “achieved 200 million downloads” as WeChat stickers in China, and that the new series — planned as 24 episodes of “15 seconds to one minute” each — would be “distributed to YouTube and TikTok,” with voice actor Yamaguchi Kappei performing every role. ADK's own project credit lists character design by Minto Co., Ltd. and animation production by Fanworks Co., Ltd., the studio behind Sanrio's Netflix series Aggretsuko.
What the documents establish
The release documents a specific reverse pipeline: a Japanese-designed character that succeeded first as a Chinese messaging-app sticker set, then returned to Japan as a vertical, phone-format anime named explicitly for TikTok and YouTube distribution, with matching LINE sticker packs released alongside it. A separate PR TIMES release, dated 8 July 2025, shows a different Tokyo company, TOKYO EPIC, raising a ¥90 million seed round for “PocketANIME,” described as producing “approximately 2-minute” AI-generated vertical anime for “SNS” distribution, with a stated ambition to expand successful titles into “film, publishing and games.” TOKYO EPIC's release does not name TikTok specifically, unlike ADK's; it describes distribution only in the general term “SNS.” TikTok's own advertising blog, in a 29 June 2026 post, describes a product called Growth Max built to “transform episodic storytelling into incremental growth on TikTok,” confirming the platform markets tools for serialised content generally; that post does not name anime, ADK or TOKYO EPIC.
Announced versus delivered
What ADK announced and, per its own release, delivered on the stated date: a 24-episode, sub-one-minute vertical series on two named platforms, tied to a documented prior sticker success. What TOKYO EPIC has announced, three years later, is funding and a production method, not a released title count or a confirmed platform list; its release describes intent using the same cross-media logic as ADK's project without yet naming a completed adaptation. Neither release is proof of a wider industry programme; each documents one company's own initiative on its own timeline.
What to watch
Editorially, the marker worth tracking is whether TOKYO EPIC's AI-generated shorts name TikTok specifically once titles ship, and whether any additional Japanese distributor issues its own dated release naming short-video platforms the way ADK's 2022 release did.
- Did ADK's Mr. Egg series complete its planned 24 episodes on TikTok and YouTube, and is a view count disclosed anywhere?
- Has TOKYO EPIC's PocketANIME named TikTok or another specific platform since its 2025 funding release?
- Do any other Japanese anime rights holders' own press releases name short-video platforms as a distribution channel for existing IP, rather than only for AI-generated originals?
One dated release names TikTok as a distribution channel for an established sticker character; a second, three years later, describes an AI production method aimed at the same general audience without yet naming a platform. Read together, they document a practice starting, not a programme completed.
